Rochester Post-Bulletin: Packed auditorium hears about DMC
The Rochester Post-Bulletin facilitated a community discussion last week with Lisa Clarke, Mayo Clinic's DMC administrator; Dr. Bradly Narr, Mayo's DMC medical director; Rochester City Council member Ed Hruska; and John Wade, president of the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce. Here's an excerpt of their discussion:
Everyone who spoke during the Dialogues event seemed to agree that the DMC plan is huge for Rochester, but more than a few also expressed concerns about the legislation, governance and transparency of the process and how the anticipated growth will affect the community.
For example, a Rochester Public Schools teacher asked the panel if Mayo considered how the school district will handle such growth.
The community working together will have time to plan for it as it happens, Lisa Clarke said.
"It's a 20-year plan, so all of the downstream effect won't fall on deaf ears. ... This is a very thoughtful community, and always has been ... I'm confident we'll do a great job," she said.
