Sustainability presentation and discussion about mass timber led by Lauren Piepho, Structural Designer at HGA.

While wood is one of the world’s oldest building materials, recent innovative technologies and material science advancements have catapulted the newest category of pre-fabricated, engineered wood – mass timber construction – into the limelight. Mass timber is now an extremely viable material option for mid to high-rise building projects, offering a multitude of benefits, including natural fire resistance, strength comparable to steel and concrete, and shorter construction schedules.

Mass timber construction also has a neutral carbon footprint, allowing architects and engineers to confront the world’s climate crisis without sacrificing functionality. This presentation will address the uses and benefits of mass timber, including its impact on carbon emissions in the construction industry.

The DMC Sustainability Series is a partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council. This presentation is free to view.
