Description

Sustainability presentation and discussion led by Abby Tricker, Community Health Specialist at Olmsted County Public Health, and Barbara Beck, League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certified by the League of American Bicyclists.
Tricker and Beck will discuss how motorists and bicyclists can safely share the roads. Beck will address traffic laws that pertain to bicyclists, why bicyclists sometimes “take the lane” even when there is a bike lane available and how to navigate the new bicycling infrastructure in the city. She will also provide examples of different types of bike infrastructure in Rochester and how safely accommodating multiple modes of travel contributes to community health, vibrancy and sustainability.
Tricker will discuss current traffic crash trends in the Rochester area and across the state and the contributing factors that lead to these crashes. In addition, she will share local and state strategies to reduce the number of crashes as well as individual behavior changes that can keep people safe on the roads.
The DMC Sustainability Series is a partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council. This presentation is free to view.
