Pop-Up Floral Installation Brightens Heart of the City

First of Several Surprise “Art UP” projects in Downtown Rochester

Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency (DMC EDA) and Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) premiered a large floral arrangement integrated into construction equipment at the Heart of the City public realm project in downtown Rochester on September 24, 2020. The unique display transformed the construction zone with vibrant sights and a welcoming message to residents, patients and visitors to the downtown core.

This was the first of several surprise “Art UP” projects throughout downtown Rochester over the next year. DMC EDA and RDA created Art UP, a pop-up art installation program, as another response to the impact COVID-19 has had on downtown Rochester. Since the pandemic started, organizations have not been able to host events, not wanting to bring large groups of people together. Art UP is a passive program that can still offer opportunities for the community to safely enjoy being downtown, surrounded by art, music, shopping and entertainment.

The installation remained on display through Saturday, September 26, at which point the construction equipment returned to its work on the Heart of the City project.

Bolander, Fox and Fern Floral, Kraus-Anderson, and Northern Sun Productions supported the first Art UP installation.
