The Energy Integration Committee (EIC) plays a key role in advancing the City of Rochester’s energy and climate goals. The Committee includes representatives from the City of Rochester, Destination Medical Center, Mayo Clinic, Minnesota Energy Resources, Olmsted County, Rochester Public Utilities , and the University of Minnesota Rochester. Together, this cross-sector group leads energy initiatives that improve building efficiency, expand renewable energy, and support a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
Highlights of the EIC member organization’s collaborative work:
- Launching a building benchmarking program and expanding energy design assistance tools
- Accelerating renewable energy procurement and supporting local clean energy development
- Supporting EV fleet planning, enhancing electric vehicle codes, and shaping mobility hub design
- Improving energy management in City buildings and supporting vendor education
- Promoting new incentives and financing tools for commercial energy projects
History
Since its formation in 2018, the Committee has completed or initiated nearly every strategy outlined in the EIC Strategic Energy Project Plan. The plan served as a roadmap through 2025, outlining strategies for achieving energy and carbon goals of the EIC organizations in alignment with those of the broader community. Strategies streamlined energy efficiency programs, transportation electrification, and supported innovative energy infrastructure across the City and County.
After a series of workshops over the winter of 2025-2026, EIC members published the 2026 EIC Action Plan Update. Looking ahead to 2030, this update builds on the successes of the 2019 plan while also forging new strategies that accommodate the ever-changing political, economic, and technological landscape.
