Sustainability presentation and discussion with Matthew Spiten, respiratory therapist at Saint Marys Hospital.
The Rochester Air Champions is a multidisciplinary civilian science team that has been studying fine particulate matter over the last four years. Spiten will describe how the group began as a passionate University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) student group exploring the limitations of a single air quality monitoring network to a community-driven team implementing a robust network using novel data sensors to better understand local air pollution. Ultimately, their goal is to develop the framework needed to find the connection between air pollution and health to help transform Rochester into a healthy, smart, and connected community.
Spiten attended the University of Minnesota Rochester where he received a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions degree with a focus in Respiratory Care. While at UMR, Matthew founded the Sierra Student Coalition in 2016, which led to the formation of the Rochester Air Champions. He has continued to lead the group on a volunteer basis.
The DMC Sustainability Series is free to view. Join the presentation here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85069684107
