Impact through immersion: Q&A with Jeanine Gangeness of WSU-Rochester

With more than 45 two- and four-year postsecondary institutions within 90 miles of Rochester, the city is a breeding ground for thinkers and innovators. The state’s strategic focus on world-class education is also positioning Minnesota as national leaders in workforce development.

DMC sat down with WSU-R’s associate vice president, Jeanine Gangeness, to learn more about the college’s presence in Rochester and plans for growth.

UMR has a big job. They are tasked with educating the next generation of medical professionals and equipping them with the transferable skills they’ll need to succeed in today’s high-tech, high-touch world of health care.

Hands-on engagement with some of the top medical professionals in the world has allowed students to play a key role in the ever-changing world of healthcare. Having students in the Heart of the City has brought a vibrant energy to the community.

UMR is an anchor in the DMC Development Plan for the Recreation District and lies adjacent to Discovery Square. These sub-districts will drive the future of biomedical, research, education, and technology innovation in both the region and the state.
