This workshop will introduce participants to the basics of participatory budgeting as a tool for community engagement and working toward more equitable and efficient public spending. We will dig into challenges, ways to design for equity, and best practices.
OUR PRESENTER
Anita Dos Santos
Director of Advocacy, Participatory Budgeting Project
Anita Dos Santos is the Director of Advocacy at the Participatory Budgeting Project. She works with government agencies, schools, and community-based organizations to develop strategies for advocating for and implementing participatory budgeting. Prior to this role, she was an advocate for affordable housing and tenants’ rights, providing holistic services to housing-insecure families, and training partners to do the same. Drawing on her community engagement work, Anita works to center and amplify community voice as the starting point for transformation within our democracy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies from Queens College and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work at Fordham University.

The Equity Alliance Equity Series is a monthly seminar sponsored by Destination Medical Center and the City of Rochester. The purpose is to introduce diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices, build sustainable DEI community strategies, and build advocacy and allyship within the Rochester community. The series is held virtually on the second Wednesday of every month at noon.
