Progress continues in the St Marys Place sub-district

A few months ago, DMC developed the design process for the public realm/public infrastructure for the St. Marys Place sub-district and 2nd Street Corridor. With the data collection phase complete, we recently initiated the next step in the process: the Design Sprint.

St-Marys-PlaceThis process called for teams of stakeholders – property owners, neighborhood leaders, Mayo Clinic representatives, and city staff – to work with a team of designers to develop concepts that address issues such as pedestrian circulation (think streetscape, skyways, and tunnels), parking, and neighborhood connections.

Destination Medical Center Corporation Board Takes Major Step Forward on Heart of the City

ROCHESTER, Minn. (August 25, 2016) – At today’s board meeting, the Destination Medical Center (DMC) Corporation Board of Directors took a major step forward on DMC’s Heart of the City sub-district by approving the recommendation of the Heart of the City Community Advisory Committee to select RSP Architects as the design team for public space in Heart of the City. The DMC Corporation Board also was updated on the latest progress of the Discovery Square sub-district and transportation.

“The Heart of the City district is an essential part of our strategy to ensure Rochester’s place as America’s City for Health,” said Lt. Governor Tina Smith, DMC Corporation Board Chair. “It will be the place where Mayo Clinic, medical innovation, new business and hospitality opportunities, and housing choices all meet. Today’s announcement takes us a step closer to this goal.”

Following the meeting, the DMC Corporation Board toured the recently reopened Conley-Maass Building located in Discovery Square and met with the building’s tenants and collaborators.

DMC Corp. board of directors meeting highlights downtown development

Downtown development received top billing at the most recent meeting of the Destination Medical Center (DMC) Corporation Board of Directors.

Abu Dhabi-based Bloom Properties gave an update on a mixed-use project that will be anchored in the Downtown Waterfront sub-district. The $180-200 million project will include residential, hospitality, and retail space, as well as space for outdoor concerts and ice skating.

Board member and former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak called the proposal “a home run,” saying it meets a lot of the DMC’s goals for housing, retail, and community spaces.

Destination Medical Center Corporation Board Meeting Highlights Substantial Progress Occurring in DMC District

(May 26, 2016) – At today’s board meeting, the Destination Medical Center (DMC) Corporation Board of Directors highlighted the substantial progress being made on projects in the DMC District. These projects include some of the DMC’s top development priorities: Discovery Square, Heart of the City, and transportation improvements. The Board also heard plans for DMC’s participation in this year’s BIO International Convention, the largest international event for the biotechnology industry.

$1.8 billion in infrastructure planned with DMC

In the next two decades, Rochester leaders will face the largest public infrastructure decisions in the city’s history. In tandem with the Destination Medical Center initiative, about $1.8 billion in infrastructure projects are on the city’s near horizon.

Of the estimated $1.8 billion in infrastructure identified in the DMC Development Plan, about $720 million is targeted to create 16,000 new structure parking spaces; $348 million is envisioned to create a downtown transit circulator; and $112 million is planned for other transit, streets and city loop improvements, according to city documents.

In 2015, the Destination Medical Center Corporation board expressed the need for 2016 efforts to focus on three key areas – momentum, metrics, and marketing. Updates provided at the April 18 board meeting clearly indicated all those invested in bringing the DMC vision to life were listening.

Destination Medical Center Corporation Board Discusses Development Process and Energy Planning; Welcomes Two New Members

ROCHESTER, Minn. (April 18, 2016) – At today’s special board meeting, the Destination Medical Center (DMC) Corporation Board of Directors discussed the DMC development process and heard updates from the DMC Economic Development Agency (EDA) and the City of Rochester on development and investment activity within the DMC District, including two DMC priorities — Discovery Square and Heart of the City.

As part of the new DMC development process, the DMC EDA staff has been working with City of Rochester staff and the development community to prepare a developer resource guide. The guide includes tools and resources to assist developers as they consider development opportunities within the DMC District, including information on the project review and approval process and potential funding sources.

UPDATE: DMCC Board unable to meet

Despite best efforts, inclement winter weather prevented the DMC Corporation Board of Directors from meeting this morning as originally planned.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Board Chair Lt. Governor Tina Smith will present the 2015 private investment draft report to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) for certification.

The Board will officially approve the private investment report at a rescheduled meeting in April.

The Destination Medical Center Corporation (DMCC) board will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 24 at the Mayo Civic Center.

Almost a year has passed since the DMC Development Plan was approved, and much progress has been made. Private sector response and investor activity have increased significantly, illustrating the commitment of investors, developers, and Mayo Clinic to ensure the success of DMC and enhance the opportunities in Rochester.
